CALVIN ALEXANDER

RUSSUM Calvin Alexander died Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Marion General Hospital in Columbia. He was 40.

Mr. Alexander was preceded in death by a daughter, Alisha Anderson; a stepfather, Alfred Davis; and two nephews, Craig Alexander and Tyrone Wilson Alexander.

He is survived by his father, Freddie Lee Alexander Sr. of Port Gibson; his mother, Lola Davis of Lorman; four sons, Kendell Anderson, Calvin Anderson, Joshua Richardson and Daniel Richardson, all of Port Gibson; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Eddie Alexander of Port Gibson; four brothers, Bobby Leroy of Houston, Texas, Freddie Alexander Jr. of Natchez, Donald L. Alexander of Lorman, and Fredrick Alexander Jr. of Woodville; seven sisters, Shirley Williams and Francine Reed, both of Lorman, Glendora Alexander-Muhammed, Carolyn Rowan, Wendy Walker, and Stacy Alexander, all of Port Gibson and Delphine Wells of Vicksburg; two uncles, Sebron Jones Jr. and Carl E. Alexander both of Port Gibson; one aunt, Dora Tidwell of Chicago, Ill.; and a number of great-uncles, great-aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Services will be today at 1 p.m. at Morningstar M.B. Church in Russum with Rev. Larry Clark officiating.

Burial will follow in McCay Cemetery with Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson handling the arrangements.

LULA MAE COLLINS BURRELL

PORT GIBSON Lula Mae Collins Burrell died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 62.

Mrs. Burrell was a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jhue Collins Sr. and Lillie B. Lyles-Collins; her husband, Jimmie Burrell; two brothers, Jhue Collins Jr. and John Collins; a daughter, Yvonne Burrell; a son, Jimmie Burrell Jr.; and a granddaughter, Rosievelatte Burrell.

She is survived by four sons, Billie Burrell, Melvin Burrell and Keith Burrell, all of Hermanville, and Donald Burrell of Chicago; 10 daughters, Renetta Barnes, Shirlene Thompson, Margie Burrell, Elsie Burrell, Hazel Anderson and Lillie Burrell, all of Port Gibson, Debra Burrell of Hermanville, Rosie Davis of Vicksburg, Clara Harvell of Chicago and Mary Louise Imanya of Austin, Texas; seven sisters, Jannie Page and Rosie Mary Collins, both of Jackson, and Elaine Watts, Mary Nell Collins, Georgia Rhymes, Gladys Lewis and Lois Jackson, all of Hazlehurst; three brothers, Nelson Collins of Hazlehurst and Otis Collins and Tom Earl Collins, both of Jackson; nieces; nephews; and 29 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Mountro Grove M.B. Church in Hermanville with the Rev. Frank Curtis officiating. Burial will follow at the Burrell family cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from noon until the service at the church.

JAMES E. JORDY

UTICA James E. Jordy died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 67.

Born in Huntsville, Texas, Mr. Jordy had lived in Utica for the past 31 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union No. 891 where he served as vice president, secretary-treasurer and business agent.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Trant Jordy.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Lee Jordy; two sons, James E. Jordy Jr of Raymond and Richard W. Jordy of Kissimee, Fla.; his daughter, Cheryl Jordy of Peculiar, Mo.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Utica United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clayton Gilpin officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Larry Adams, Bobby Hannah, Bob Jaggers, Carl Jones, Larry Neal, Ken Paige, J.K. Slawson, W.C. Smith and W.L. Trussell.

M. Glenn Smith

The Rev. M. Glenn Smith died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2001, at Rest Care Hospice in Philadelphia. He

was 87.

Rev. Smith was born in Neshoba County and ordained to the Baptist ministry in his home church of Bethsaida Baptist.

Rev. Smith graduated from House High School in Neshoba County

He also obtained degrees from Clarke Memorial Baptist College, Mississippi College and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Rev. Smith pastored in Mississippi for many years, serving churches in DeKalb, McComb, and Corinth as well as many others.

He served in Florida churches before returning to Mississippi to pastor at Rock Branch Baptist Church, Union County and Center Ridge Baptist Church.

Rev. Smith also worked as a missionary in Florida and Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper Smith and Jessie Louis Hardy Smith.

Rev. Smith is survived by his wife, Zudye Willis Smith; his son, Michael Glenn Smith of Philadelphia; three daughters, the Rev. Jo Smith Hollman of Jackson; Zudith L. Manning of Philadelphia and Cheri Smith Williams of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Maye Kimbrell of Jackson; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Bethsaida Baptist Church in Philadelphia.

Burial in the church cemetery will follow.

Memorials may be directed to Bethsaida Baptist Church, Stewpot Community Services or other charities.

JO EVELYN FRANKLIN WALKER

Services for Jo Evelyn Franklin Walker will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at New Hope M.B. Church with the Rev. Frank Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A repast will follow the service.

Visitation will be today at Robbins Funeral Home and from 12:30 p.m. Sunday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Walker died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2001, at Vicksburg Medical Center. She was 61.

A lifelong resident of the Bovina community, Mrs. Walker worked for Vicksburg Head Start for a number of years.

She was a member of New Hope M.B. Church of Bovina and the Bovina Homemakers Club.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Toni Walker; her father, Watson Franklin; a brother, Watson Franklin Jr.; and a sister, Ledora Wilson.

Survivors include her husband, Roosevelt Walker; two daughters, Washena Walker of Vicksburg and Crystal “Cookie” Newman of Columbus; one son, Javin Walker of Jackson; her mother, Louise Franklin of Bovina; two sisters, Doris Jean Williams of Cleveland, Ohio, and Patricia Williams of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
