Vicksburg firefighters treat injuries and work to extract a girl from a Ford E-series van Monday morning after the driver fell asleep, went into the median, hit a culvert, over-corrected and rolled the van in the eastbound lane of Interstate 20 about a mile from the Bovina exit.

Six people were injured in a wreck on Interstate 20 this morning.

At least two of the six were taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center this morning following the single-vehicle wreck that occurred about 7:30 a.m.

Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol officer Eric Henry said some of the victims, all of whom were minors, were taken to River Region Medical Center. Names of the injured were unavailable at press time.

The wreck occurred when a Ford E-Series van carrying eight people went off the left side of the eastbound lane of I-20 about two miles west of Bovina.

Henry said the driver, whom he did not identify, fell asleep at the wheel.

“The van was eastbound and the driver fell asleep, went out into the median and hit a culvert,” he said. “They did overturn and one of the minors was ejected. All of them had on a seatbelt, but somehow he got positioned where he came from under the belt.”

Vincent Croom and Quenine Robinson, the two adults in the vehicle, were not taken to the hospital.

Croom said that they were returning home to Sumter, S.C. after visiting family in Texas.

The relationship between the minors, Croom and Robinson was unknown this morning.
