Former Warren Central, MSU coach Henderson dies

STARKVILLE (AP) — Former Warren Central and Mississippi State women’s basketball coach Jerry Henderson died Saturday after a battle with cancer. He was 72.

Mississippi State said services for Henderson were held Tuesday in Starkville.

Henderson led Warren Central to three Class 5A championships, in 1986, ‘87 and ‘89. He went from there to Mississippi State, where he coached until 1995.

He was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame last year.

Henderson also had a long high school coaching career at Madison-Ridgeland High School, Grace Christian Academy, Starkville Academy and Starkville High.

Henderson served in the Mississippi National Guard and retired as a lieutenant colonel. Survivors include his wife, Cricket; three children; a sister and two grandchildren.
