Bovina Elementary

• Our Giant pledge leaders last week were Avery Cook, Ashlyn Rogers, Dixie Ann Vinzant, Cedrick Blackmore, Sadie Ozburn, Aaron Smith, Jacob Bryant, Nickolas Carrick, Malachi Cox and Laura Beth Ertle.

• This month Dr. Moore, our counselor, has been discussing empathy through large group instruction and book studies.

• Our third graders read biographies and created various visuals which they used to present to their classmates.

 

Bowmar Elementary

• Bowmar’s Annual Storybook Parade will be held on Friday, February 27 at 8:30.  Students are encouraged to choose a favorite book and dress up as their favorite character! Join us for some delightful and creative characters.

• The Book Fair will be held in the library this week. Stop by and check out the wide selection of reading materials!

Dana Road Elementary

• Pennies for Patients to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society will begin February 9 and will continue through February 27.  Students are encouraged to bring in pennies.  Students may wear a jersey Friday for $1.00 to benefit this endeavor.

• Spring pictures will be taken February 27.  Students may wear appropriate spring attire.

• Field day shirts are on sale now through March 4.  Cost is $7.00.

 

Jacob’s Ladder

• The students at Jacob’s Ladder went to the YMCA on Tuesday to exercise with Mrs. Sharon Andrews. We enjoyed working on volleyball skills.

• On Wednesday we celebrated Mardi Gras by eating jambalaya and making individual king cakes.

• We also attended a special Ash Wednesday Chapel Chat at First Presbyterian. Pastor Tim gave everyone a special blessing. We really enjoyed the special service and enjoyed the music played by Mr. Thomas.

• Student of the week is Tonya Woods.

 

Porter’s Chapel Academy

• Eager Eagle of the week in the first grade class of Rebecca Pace was Austin Cook.

• Students attended the production of Beauty and the Beast at Warren Central High School.

• Grandparent volunteer was Beanie Smith.

• Parents providing snacks and assisting with the class Valentine party were:  Brittany Gerard, Bridgette Jones, Kendra Mauldin, Robyn Cook, Stephanie Reeves, Dena Daffron, Dana Kay Smith, and grandparent, Penny Daffron.

• Key Club Members assisted with the Kiwanis Chili Feast on February 13, 2015.

• Eagle 4-H members Taylor Rushing, Ryan Collins, Josh Arias, Josh Hunt, Karley Hinson, Logan Beard, Kaden Holloway, and Glenn Alan Kittrell participated in the Dixie National Calf Scramble on February 5, 2015.  Ryan and Taylor placed 3rd, Kaden and Josh Hunt placed 4th, and Josh Arias and Glenn Alan Kittrell placed 5th in the scramble.

• The prom committee will be selling tickets to the PCA prom beginning February 17, 2015.  This year’s theme is Midnight Masquerade.  Tickets are $40 per couple until March 5, 2015.

 

Redwood Elementary

• Morning announcement leaders for the week include Logan Pettway and Anden McClurg.

• Chef Laura and Chef Patrick held a tasting party for new healthy food items for the Redwood cafeteria.  Tasters who rated each food were Wyatt Arnold, Aiden Winningham, Austin Jones, Abby Chester, Janiya Johnson, Elexis Smith, Lacie Hagin, Leona Hedrick, Gabrielle Barber, Niyoki Strong, Whitley White, Lane Mason, Jaden Walter, Tyrone Jackson, DaMarcus Jones, Hunter Martin, Mrs. McCammon, Mrs. Russell, Mrs. McBroom,and Mrs. Mobley.

• Fourth Grade will be participating in NAEP testing February 25, 2015. Please be present and on time for school. Also, after another exciting Leadership Assembly the battle for the “Spirit Stick” goes to Mrs. Hall’s Fifth Grade class. A BIG shout out to Mrs. Hall and her class. The Star Students who were recognized during the assembly for their outstanding demonstration of leadership characteristics were Will worthy, Marlee Solomon, Kaleah Sanders, Donald Baily, Quaid Farmer, Peyton McBroom, and Thomas Azlin.

• Family Reading Night included a Super Hero theme and provided students and parents the opportunity to enjoy reading together and participating in several activities that develop reading success.

 

Sherman Ave

• “Student of the Week” for each class at Sherman Avenue: Parnell Coleman, Halley Melin, Zachary Ross, Donovan Taylor, Kamari Nelson, Leonard Miller, Haley Steele, Deterrius Hooker, Miracle Smith, Jordyn William, Daphne Jordan, Jamaya Butler, Ri’Kelle Nixon, Kynsleight Thomason, Kinsey Hutson, Darius Chatman, Nash Morgan, Za’miya Riley, and Alyssa Erekson.

• Sherman Avenue was a host for the “Vicksburg Warren School District’s Interactive Global Map.” Students, from all over the district, came to our school to view “Africa.”

• Sherman Avenue hosted our bi-annual “Family Math Night.” Special area teachers presented creative ways to teach math at home. Classroom teachers met with parents and gave them specific skills to work on at home, as well as materials to use.

 

Vicksburg High

• The VHS Key Club served as volunteers at the Dixie National AQHA Riders with Disabilities Competition on Feb. 10. The event was held at the Fordice Equestrian Center , Mississippi Fairgrounds in Jackson.

• The VHS family congratulates Mrs. Donna Carpenter on being chosen as the Vicksburg Chamber of Commerce Secondary Teacher of the Year.

• Kevia Davis traveled with Dr. Tameka Henderson to WLBT to discuss the S.A.V.E. grant that VHS was awarded and the activities done thus far on the mid-day report.

• The VHS National Honor Society would like to thank those who donated to the clothing drive.  It was a huge success.  The clothes were donated to Mountain of Faith Ministries.

• The VHS Varsity and Women’s Choir participated in the District Choral Competition in Pearl.  Both choirs earned superior ratings.

• Students from VHS Family and Consumer Science class were afforded the opportunity to go behind the scenes of WLBT3/FOX 40 News Studios in Jackson, MS.  News anchor Joy Redmon allowed the students to sit behind the news desk and read actual news clips of leading stories in the local area.  The next field trip will be to the Mississippi Baking Company in Pelahatchie, MS on Feb. 24.  All visits are geared toward exposing students to diverse career paths.

• There will be a senior transition meeting at Hinds Vo-Tech Center on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 3:00 p.m.

• The VHS S.A.V.E. Chapter will host a Prom Safety Awareness Day on Friday, Feb. 27, for Juniors and Seniors in the auditorium.  The guest speaker will be Ms. Cassandra Reed, founder of the ARL Project.  Members of the community will set up booths during lunch so students can participate in various activities and pick up valuable information.

• All Juniors will be given the ACT on Mar. 3.  Parents of Juniors are asked to make sure their child is presents and on time.  The cost of the ACT is covered by the state.  Students can practice using the ACT section of USA Test Prep.  For login information, contact the Guidance Office of VHS.

 

Vicksburg Intermediate School

• Pledge leaders were Chloe Hynum, Claude King,  Rodrianna Ringo, Tashi Lyons, Devin Benard, and Dayshun Drayton.

• Congratulations to Yakia Burns, Kammeron Williams, and James West for graduating from Academy of Reading.

• The VIS GATES students and teacher Margie Heltzel sponsored a Winter WondeRUN One Mile Run  & Walk on Friday, February 13.  Over 180 kids participated and raised over $900 to benefit Make-A-Wish!  Students ran or walked one mile enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies.  Thanks to the Vicksburg High School Cross-Country of James Sanders, Jay Stirgus, Keymontez White, Otis Johnson, Andrew Proctor, David King, Shamar Dorsey, Amy Dixon, Caroline Williams, Lelana Thornell, Brittney Bryant, Jewel Adamson, Meggan Busby, and Coach Jennifer Gray.

• Parents can access PARCC Practice Tests at www.vwsd.org and click on the link.

Students will be taking the PARCC PBA (MCT3) tests between March 2 and April 3.  During this time students will be reviewing skills in the classroom and taking the tests when scheduled.  Parents need to make sure students are present and on time each day to so that students can do their best.

• Nine weeks tests will be given next week: Monday – ELA, Tuesday – Math, Wednesday – Social Studies, Thursday – Science.

• VIS is a Title I school.  Because of Title I funding, we are able to pay the salaries of our lead teacher and four assistant teachers.  Each of these staff members provide support for students and teachers.  Funds are also used to purchase computers, materials for the classroom, winter and summer reading books, and other items to help us be successful.  Call Mrs. Cooksey (601.638.4419)  if you have questions or want more information.

 

Warren Central High

• Warren Central Hall of Fame recipients are Kaylor Bell, Denitra Bracey, Devin Bryant, Logan Cessna, Sarah Davis, Becca English, Darby Gain, Jessica Hurley, Miranda Jordan, Avery Lynn Liddell, Brandon Smith, Afton Wallace, and Kennedy Whitmore.

• The WCHS Student Council is sponsoring a Sadie Hawkins dance on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. in Gym B. Starting Monday, Feb. 23, tickets can be purchased in Office A for $10 each.

• The WCHS National Honor Society Induction has been rescheduled for Monday, February 23, at 6:00 PM in the auditorium.  A reception will follow in the library.
