Although they didn’t take advantage of as many scoring opportunities as he’d have liked, Vicksburg coach Brian Ellis said he was happy with his players’ performance.

“We played good defense today. We had a few mistakes, but it wasn’t the floodgates opening or anything,” Ellis said. “We’ve fought this weather and couldn’t practice for two days, so we didn’t do some scrimmaging we’d planned to do. Today was the first day for (Oakes) to throw really live stuff.”

Oakes, Torrey Daniels, Kori Screws and Grace Bufkin each had a hit for the Missy Gators in the win over Ridgeland.

Lockridge and Daniels had two hits apiece against Florence and Oakes threw another complete game, but a lack of timely hitting led to the loss.

“The second game we just couldn’t get the hits with people on base to do anything about it,” Ellis said.
