Our students, parents and faculty have been hard at work trying to “Give Back” to the community.  We’ve participated in many efforts to help others including; a canned food drive, Harvest of Pennies for the Children’s Shelter, United Way campaign, donations to the Diabetes Association, a Pennies for Patients fundraiser for leukemia and we will be participating in Blue Ribbon Day for the Child and Parent Center. It is so important for our students to understand the value of helping others and we think they’re doing a great job!

We’ve had some wonderful events and visitors at Dana Road as well. Miss Mississippi, Jasmine Murray, visited our building in January to speak with our students about tobacco and drug awareness. Our first Parent Night highlighting The Leader in Me was held in February and was a tremendous success due to the help and planning of several faculty members who went above and beyond. A special thanks to Dr. Callon, Mrs. Yates, Mrs. Hicks, Coach Babb and Mrs. Norris for all of your help! We have two very special events coming up; Read Across America Day will be held March 5 and our first Leadership Day will be held May 1. We are so excited about hosting these two events and giving our students the opportunity to showcase their talents and leadership skills.

Finally, we want to congratulate three ladies who have truly embodied the leadership style that we are fostering at Dana Road.  Mrs. Penny Register is our Teacher of the Year and is always willing to assist any other teacher in the building in any way. Mrs. Mary Taylor is our Assistant Teacher of the Year and puts a smile on everyone’s face with her kindness and hard work.  And, Mrs. Ava Cooley is our Parent of the Year who works hard everyday to be sure our students never go without anything we need for events and special occasions. Thank you to each of these ladies for their complete dedication to Dana Road Elementary.
