“The early dismissal doesn’t have to be made up because we met the required amount of minutes,” he said.

“We plan on having school tomorrow at this point,” he said. “I talked to John (Elfer), and he seems to think we should be fine because we shouldn’t get any more precipitation.”

Porter’s Chapel Academy Headmaster Pam Wilbanks said this is their third day to miss because of inclement weather.

“We do have one snow day built in, so really we have two to make up,” she said.

Wilbanks said exams scheduled for Thursday would be made up after spring break, Tuesday, March 17.

Porters Chapel Academy will not have school Friday due to a scheduled student holiday.

Mary Arledge, principal at St. Francis Xavier Elementary, said they too have missed three school days but they had one day built into their schedule.

Vicksburg Catholic School plans to have school tomorrow, she said.

Arledge said missing school Thursday means missing the district science fair, which will be rescheduled for second and third graders at a later time.

Bovina Elementary School’s Leader in Me Leadership Day has been rescheduled for March 31, from 9 to 11 a.m.

During this student-led event, guests will be able to learn about the Leader in Me initiative and view first-hand how the first-year Lighthouse School is empowering its students to make better choices for a stronger future.

For more information about attending Bovina’s Leadership Day contact Elyce Curry at the Chamber of Commerce, 601-636-1012. Space is limited.

The Financial Football program at Vicksburg High School will be rescheduled at a later date.

The program is designed to teach Mississippi teens about financial literacy. Taking part in the program will be Treasurer Lynn Fitch, Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr., and Aldermen Willis Thompson and Michael Mayfield.

Alcorn State University and Hinds Community College’s Vicksburg campuses were closed Thursday, and the Mississippi Faculty Association for Community and Junior Colleges Capitol Day event was canceled.
