Edna Meadows Horton

Edna Meadows Horton, born to the late Jewel and Collie Meadows on Feb. 27, 1942, in Richton, passed away on March 15, 2015, at Merit River Region Hospital at the age of 73 after fighting a three-year battle with cancer.

She graduated from Ellisville High School in 1960 and Jones County Junior College in 1962. Edna found the love of her life, Walter Ben Horton, in 1972, and they were married on June 22, 1973.

They were together 42 wonderful years, enjoying many trips to Florida and spending restful weekends at their lake house in Vicksburg.

She loved children and helped raise many of them at her Jack and Jill Day Nursery in Vicksburg. Edna also loved cooking and preparing baked goods for others to enjoy.  She would read cookbooks as if they were novels.

She was a member of Porters Chapel United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Frances Hawthorne Circle.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Doris Turner and Huretta Gross.

Survivors include her husband, Walter Benson Horton of Vicksburg; two children, a daughter, Alicia Ann Horton, and a son, Billy Joe Horton, both of Vicksburg; three loving granddaughters, Alexcia, Ashley and Roselyn  Sanchez; three sisters, Rosemary (J.D.) Walters of Hernando, JoAnn (Tim) Goggans of Hattiesburg, and Carla (Frank) Wright of Hernando; and a niece, nephew, cousins and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Porters Chapel United Methodist Church.
