Eleanor Johnson Turcotte

Eleanor Johnson Turcotte went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 24, 2015.

She was born in Lexington to Grayden and Flossie Johnson. The family later moved to Vicksburg, where she grew up and met her husband, Ernest C. Turcotte Jr.

After graduating from high school in Vicksburg, she attended Hinds Community College and later attended Mississippi College, receiving both her bachelor’s and masters’ degrees.

On Christmas Day in 1959, Eleanor and Ernest Turcotte were married in Vicksburg. They later moved to Clinton, where they reared four children.

Over her lifetime, she was a devoted wife, mother, secretary, teacher, counselor, and an employee of Mississippi College. She also assisted Ernest in his CPA firm for many years.

Being an active member of several Southern Baptist churches, she served in many areas as Sunday school teacher, choir member, in missions organizations, and various committees.

At the time of her death, she was attending Providence Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Ernest, she is survived by her four children and nine grandchildren, Jim Turcotte (Jenny) and James, Megan and Austin, Lori Turcotte Young (Ricky) and Madison and McKenzie, Leslie Turcotte Threadgill (Terry) and Gray, and Leah Turcotte Chisolm (Allen) and Chase, Katelyn and Ashlyn.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Grayden and Flossie Johnson of Vicksburg and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church, (old sanctuary) in Clinton, Friday, March 27, 2015, with visitation beginning at noon. The service begins at 2 p.m. under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Internment will be at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery, in Vicksburg.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be made to either Mississippi College, 200 S Capitol St., Clinton, MS  39056 or Mississippi SIDS Alliance, 101 First Choice Dr., Madison, MS 39110.
