Warren Central routs Greenville in double dip

Warren Central cleared the minions out of its way, then turned its attention to the boss.

Brooke Patterson drove in six runs — three in each game — as the Lady Vikes crushed hapless Greenville 15-0 and 14-0 in a doubleheader Thursday at Lucy Young Field.

The two victories assured Warren Central (10-1, 2-0 Division 4-6A) of no worse than a No. 2 seed in the Class 6A playoffs. It’ll host perennial power Clinton (6-4, 1-0) on Tuesday in the first of a home-and-home series that will determine the division title.

Warren Central and Clinton will meet again April 14 at Clinton.

Greenville has been outscored 42-0 in its three division games and offered little resistance to the Lady Vikes. Both games lasted just three innings before they were halted by the mercy rule.

In game one, Patterson went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles and three RBIs as WC won 15-0. Katie Channell went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored, and also pitched a two-hit shutout.

The Lady Vikes had six hits and drew a dozen walks.

Warren Central actually was retired in order in the top of the first inning of game two — a home game for Greenville since the teams were playing both division games in one day — but quickly got on track.

WC scored six runs in the second inning, eight in the third, and batted around in both frames to swat the Honey Bees.

Patterson again drove in three runs, while Channell was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs.

Lawren Boolos had two hits and scored three runs, and Ashley Coley doubled in a run and scored twice.

Darby Gain got the win in the circle. She pitched three innings, struck out five and allowed one hit. Gain also helped her own cause with an RBI double.
