The Vicksburg Missy Gators ended a busy week by putting a mark in the win column.

Grace Bufkin had two hits and three RBIs, and Chelsea Myers delivered a key two-out, two-run double in the fifth inning to lead Vicksburg to a 12-7 win over Riverside on Saturday afternoon.

It was Vicksburg’s third game in as many days. They lost the first two, but salvaged the last heading into another busy week next week. The Missy Gators will play three games in four days beginning Monday at Greenville-St. Joseph.

”We made the routine plays today defensively and offensively we were very good. I’m very pleased with the day,” Vicksburg coach Brian Ellis said. “That was the third game in as many days and the girls responded to end the week with a very nice win.”

Torey Daniels, Kori Screws, Myers and Brianna Knox all had two hits apiece for Vicksburg.

Olivia Oakes allowed four hits and didn’t walk a batter, but poor bunt coverage led to seven errors for Vicksburg — three of them in one inning.

Even so, the Missy Gators (5-9) answered everything Riverside threw at them. The teams traded runs until Myers’ big double in the fifth finally gave Vicksburg some separation. It was part of a five-run inning that made the score 12-4.
