Crash snarls traffic on I-20

The westbound lanes of the Interstate 20 bridge over the Mississippi River were closed Wednesday morning following a multi-vehicle crash just west of the Louisiana state line.

Eastbound traffic was running as normal.

The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m. and was just out of sight from the eastern bank of the river. Initial reports said two semi trucks and a car were involved in the collision.

Traffic was backed up from the bridge to Indiana Avenue following the crash as emergency workers cleared the wreckage.

Louisiana Department of Transportation officials have offered no timetable for when the bridge will reopen.
