The Vicksburg Theatre Guild is holding an Early Bird membership drive through Aug. 20, and Mayor George Flaggs Jr. is taking advantage of the discounted prices.

“I want to support the community, and the theater is a great cultural enhancement for our city,” Flaggs said.

Monday morning, Flaggs met with VTG president Paul Ballard to signup for the yearlong membership that offers admission to all main stage shows and one viewing of the “Gold in the Hills,” the Guinness Book of World Records’ longest running melodrama.

Regular memberships are less than half the cost of tickets for the four main stage plays and the “Gold in the Hills” performance, and an Early-Bird membership is an even-better bargain, Ballard said.

“The Music Man,” the 1957 musical which won five Tony Awards, will be the theater’s first scheduled show of the season.

“This is a family-friendly show,” Ballard said.

“The Music Man” is set to run the second and third weekends in September.

Other shows scheduled for the season include “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily,” “Mary Poppins” and “Greater Tuna.”

VTG members also receive a $20-per-child discount on Fairy Tale Theatre registration.

“The theater has a great summer program for kids. When I visited them, I fell in love with the program,” Flaggs said.

Membership applications and a complete listing of ticket pricing are available at vicksburgtheatreguild.com.
