Chein Gong Sit

Chein Gong Sit passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. He was 77.

Mr. Sit was born in the Xinhui District of the Quangdong Province, China, and was the son of Soo Ping and Mae Sou Sit. He moved to Vicksburg in the 1950s, returned to Hong Kong in 1960 to get married, and immediately returned to Vicksburg with his wife.

He completed an AA degree in electronics at Hinds Junior College, and settled into a career as a merchant, first at Pink’s Grocery and then Carson’s Shopette, initially on Baldwin Ferry Road, then Halls Ferry Road.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Wai Wan Sit of Vicksburg; a son, Roger Sit and daughter-in-law Dina; two grandsons, Logan and Bryce Sit, both of Chapel Hill, N.C.; and one daughter, Frances Chipley and son-in-law Dennis; and granddaughter, Sarah of Vicksburg.

He is pre-deceased by one son, Ronnie Sit of Kingsport, Tenn.

A graveside memorial service will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery Monday, Aug. 3, 2015, immediately following visitation at Riles Funeral Home from 9 to11 a.m.
