By the time the late arrivals trekked out to Bovina, got in the gate and set up their lawn chairs along the side of Mlakar Field Monday, Sara McDaniel already had a hat trick. By halftime, the rest of her teammates had turned the game into a blowout.

By the end, McDaniel had another hat trick and the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes had another easy win.

McDaniel scored six goals and assisted on two more, and Madelyn Polk and Sydney Mathis had two goals apiece as the Lady Flashes blitzed Bayou Academy 13-0.

It was St. Al’s third consecutive victory to start the season. They’ve outscored their three opponents 30-1.

“We did well. We were passing the ball a lot better and taking better crosses at the goal that we weren’t the last game. We had 15 or 16 shots the last game that missed, and this time we had a lot result in goals,” St. Al assistant coach Johnny Beauchamp said. “Our corner kicks were a whole lot better, and they’re starting to play as a team now. They’re working fine now. They just need to keep it up.”

McDaniel led Monday’s onslaught. She scored St. Al’s first goal in the fourth minute, then again in the 13th and 17th minutes to complete a quick hat trick. The senior center midfielder got another goal before halftime and then two more in the second half to earn the rare double hat trick.

St. Al led 8-0 at halftime.

“It’s just constant movement off of teammates, winning the ball defensively and keeping it together as a unit,” McDaniel said of her big day. “It’s a lot of fun just being able to come together as a unit and work together.”

Polk assisted on three of McDaniel’s first four goals, and then scored two of her own in the second half. She finished with two goals and four assists. Mathis also had two goals and two assists.

Brooklyn Breithaupt, Cameron Mathis and Lexi Varner also scored goals, while Breithaupt and London Varner had assists as Beauchamp cleared his bench with about 30 minutes left in the game.

“We had a pretty good game. We even got enough to get my younger ones out there to where they could work the ball, and that’s the most important thing because that’s going to be our team for next year,” Beauchamp said.
