Around 3 p.m. Saturday the Warren County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on a shooting in a mobile home park on the 600 block of Standard Hill Road.

Sheriff Martin Pace said the first units on the scene found an adult male deceased in the driveway. Coroner Doug Huskey identified the man as Joseph Acuff Jr. and said he died of a gunshot wound.

Warren County Sheriff’s Office investigators and Vicksburg Police Department investigators went with Pace to a location in the county where they detained an individual.

“At about 7:30 p.m. tonight we put a subject into custody that we were looking for for questioning in relation to the homicide that occurred this afternoon,” Pace said.

Pace said the individual has not been formally charged.

Leads and information on the individual brought in for questioning developed early on in the investigation, Pace said.

Crime scene investigators processed the scene for several hours.

“We are still in the process of interviewing neighbors and other individuals,” Pace said.

The body has been released to the state crime lab.

Pace said he is not going to speculate whether the shooting Saturday was related to the shooting Friday night at the Battlefield Hotel in Vicksburg.

“I will tell you my investigators have been in contact with the Vicksburg Police Department investigators concerning the situation last night,” Pace said.

No additional details were available at the time of press.
