Vicksburg is at the top when it comes to marketing online.

Vicksburg Convention and Visitor Bureau took home the award for social media strategy during last week’s Governor’s Conference on Tourism. Social media to many might seem like just playing around on a computer, but as more people go online to look for where they want to vacation, sending the right message is important.

“We have been very aggressively working on building content which we have done through video insertion into our social media strategy and through concept building through blogging,” VCVB director Bill Seratt said.

Members of the VCVB staff work to create entries for the organizations blog and maintain an active presence on multiple social media sites. Actively managing one social media site is impressive and corralling multiple platforms is worthy of praise.

“Our social media strategy was mainly built around building good content and making sure that we could tell our story on all of our platforms,” VCVB communications manager Laura Beth Strickland said.

VCVB has over 10,000 likes on Facebook, and BAD Consulting has named the VCVB’s Twitter and Pinterest in their Top 100 Destination Marketing Organizations to Follow.

“Our full marketing team works on the blog and on all of the strategy behind our marking effort,” Strickland said.

We are excited and proud for VCVB. Their love for Vicksburg shows in person and online.
