Pedestrian hit by vehicle in city

A man was hit by a vehicle at 5:30 p.m. Friday as he tried to cross Clay Street in front of Pizza Inn.

Sgt. Bill Jeffers of the Vicksburg Police Department said the man had no identification on him.

The driver who hit the man stayed on scene. There is no indication of wrongdoing, but the accident is still under investigation, Jeffers said.

A helicopter transport was called, but was not able get to the scene in the time it would take an ambulance to transport the man. An ambulance from the Vicksburg Fire Department transported the man to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Jeffers said.

He said the man was in critical condition during transport, but at this time they do not know his medical condition since he entered the hospital.
