Fire damages apartment kitchen

Food burning on a stove was the cause of a fire early Friday afternoon that heavily damaged the kitchen of a third floor apartment at Carmel Manor, 910 Bowman St., Vicksburg Fire Chief Charles Atkins said.

He said firefighters were called about 1:09 p.m. He said a sprinkler system in the apartment managed to keep the fire from spreading and contained it to the kitchen area. He said the apartment, an adjacent apartment and a second floor apartment had water damage. No one was injured.

 

One held for marijuana

A Tallulah, La. man accused of trying to supply marijuana was held without bail Friday.

Christopher Williams, 29, 508 North Mulberry St. Tallulah, La., was arrested at noon Friday and charged with possession with the intent to distribute over a kilo of marijuana, Sherriff Martin Pace said.

Williams was arrested at 71 Mingos Road where over 3 pounds of high-grade marijuana and a 2014 Dodge pickup truck were seized, Pace said. Williams is being held without bail in the Warren County Jail and his initial appearance in court will be Monday, Pace said.

“This is the culmination of an operation led by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Vicksburg Police Department Narcotics Division into the distribution of marijuana in Vicksburg and Warren County,” Pace said.

 

Man faces stolen firearm charge

A Vicksburg man faces a charge of being in possession of a stolen firearm after his arrest Thursday, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

She said Oscar Jones, 20, was arrested at 150 Eastover Drive after investigators approached him about an open container of alcohol about 6:15 p.m. and saw the gun, which a records check indicated was reported stolen in Warren County.

 

Two arrested for fraud

Two Vicksburg women accused of food stamp fraud were held without bail Friday.

Sharon Baker, 50, 2912 Oak St., was arrested on a grand jury capias at 10:15 a.m. Friday at her home and charged with public assistance fraud, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Deloris Tolliver, 33, 310 Cain Ridge Road Apt. F6, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on East Clay Street and also charged with public assistance fraud, Pace said.

The arrests were made by Lt. Lewis and Detectives Rollison and Dykes along with agents from the Department of Human Services, Pace said.

The women are being held in the Warren County Jail without bail, Pace said.

 

Purse reported missing from car

A woman’s purse was the only item reported missing Thursday from 2011 Ford Expedition parked in the 3000 block of Manor Drive, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

 

One held for probation violation

A Vicksburg man was held without bail Friday for the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

De’Anthony Grayson, 27, 106 Eva St., was held in the Warren County Jail Friday for probation violation, according to Warren County jail records.
