Union Avenue in Military Park reopened

Vicksburg National Military Park officials have reopened Union Avenue in the park after maintenance workers made temporary repairs to a possible sinkhole in the road, Park Superintendent William Justice said.

“People will now be able to go through the entire park,” he said.

Union Avenue was closed to all through traffic, including bikers and pedestrians, over the weekend after a law enforcement ranger noticed cracked and depressed pavement on Union Avenue near the Minnesota State Memorial and decided to close the area as a precaution, forcing visitors to begin their park tour using its Fort Hill entrance.
