Vicksburg Country Club is opening its doors Friday evening and inviting the community to come out and dance the night away.

The Vicksburg Chapter of Junior Auxiliary’s eighth annual Birdie, Bogey and Boogie Night is Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Roca Banquet Hall. This year’s fundraiser will feature Doctor Zarr’s Amazing Funkmonster, a popular ‘70s and ‘80s cover band.

“It’s our largest fundraiser of the year,” JA president Margie Heltzel said.  “All proceeds go to the children of Warren County through our projects. We have our nine projects and all of the money we raise through any fundraising all goes back to our projects.”

Service projects from Junior Auxiliary include Camp Silvercloud, a camp for mentally and physically handicap children; the Child and Parent Center, the Warren County Children’s Shelter, Community Outreach with the Make-A-Wish Foundation; JAV Cares with Good Shepherd Community Center; R.E.A.D., a literacy program for elementary students; and T.E.A.C.H., a tutoring program that also focuses on nutrition, fitness and safety.

“To have such great projects we have to have such great projects we have to have some financial backing,” Heltzel said. “This is just a way for us to raise money and also have a fun event for Vicksburg so people can come enjoy themselves and have a great time while raising money for a great cause.”

The event is open to the public and tickets for the evening can be purchased for $15 at the Outlets at Vicksburg. The ticket includes a night of fun and dinner catered by Goldie’s Express and T’Beaux’s Blues Le Roux.

The concert, dinner and band make up the boogie part of the night, while an earlier golf scramble at the country club is the reason for the birdie and bogey portion of the event’s name. Heltzel said more than 30 teams have signed up to play in this year’s scramble which begins with a shotgun at 1 p.m. Friday.

“It should be a good time, and it’s for a good cause,” JA fundraising chair Jennifer Walker said. “Every dollar spent goes toward helping us fund our projects that directly affect the kids.”

Walker said the public is encouraged to come and have a good time.

“We’ve got over 50 items that will be up for auction that night,” she said. “We’ve got some really great stuff.”

Some items include free nights at the Duff Green Mansion, facials and massages.
