Nancy Rebecca “Becky” Speyerer Cook, age 67, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, surrounded by family and friends.

Becky grew up in Vicksburg and had the privilege of spending her life among people and places known and loved by her since childhood. She graduated from Saint Francis Xavier Academy in 1966. She began working in 1967 at Marathon LeTourneau and continued working there until she began her career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District in 1984 as a secretary in the Engineering Division.

She was promoted to the executive office in 1992, where she remained until 2003. She then transferred to the Logistics Division, where she retired as chief of the Vicksburg District Facilities Management Office in 2012. Becky was a member of the Corps of Engineers chapter of the chamber of commerce and served on several committees and boards within the Corps and Vicksburg and Warren County during her lifetime.

She is also survived by her special furry companion, Gypsy.

Becky’s life was also enriched by an extended family that held a special place in her heart — the Tuesday night girls, the ya-yas, the lunch bunch, the Greenie Class of ‘67, and the Women of the Moose.

In addition to her love of family and friends, she truly had a passion for life. She was happiest when listening to music, watching football games, and spending time at the beach.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Mississippi Division, 1380 Livingston Lane, Jackson, MS 38213, and to PAWS Rescue, Post Office Box 13, Redwood, MS 39156.
