A Vicksburg man faces a charge of statutory rape involving a child under 14 after his arrest Monday afternoon, Vicksburg police Capt. Sandra Williams said.

Chris Harris, 41, was arrested on U.S. 61 North during a traffic stop on the bridge over Interstate 20. He was being held without bail in the Issaquena County Corrections Center pending an initial appearance in Municipal Court.

The arrest was the result of an investigation into a report police received about 1 a.m. Monday from a family member who caught Harris in the child’s bedroom. When the relative went to call police, Harris fled, resulting in a search for him by police.
