The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Merit Health River Region for treatment.

“The fellow was talking while he was in the ambulance,” Tullos said. “All he complained about was a headache.”

Tullos said the group was hunting in the No. 11 Field section of the area and wading in the water when they saw lightning flash in the distance. Soon after they saw the flash, the man was hit by a second bolt as he was sitting on a dirt mound in the field.

“It knocked him out, and one of his friends went to help him and revived him, but he passed out again and they revived him again,” Tullos said, adding the man remained conscious after the second episode.

He said the other members of the group took him to the management area entrance at Floweree Road and U.S. 61 North, where they were met by two WLFP agents, sheriff’s deputies, and a Vicksburg Fire Department ambulance.
