“We’re very glad we did not have any deaths or injuries during the period from automobile crashes related to alcohol,” he said.

Police Chief Walter Armstrong said the holiday season from Christmas through New Year’s was relatively calm inside the city.

“We got through the entire holiday season without any major crimes being committed, which is outstanding,” he said. “What we did have was a spike in — which mirrors across what went on across the country — property crimes.

“We had no violent crimes to amount to anything; no one got killed by way of automobile crash or otherwise, so that was a good thing. We’re pretty fortunate to get through (the holidays) without anything.”

Warren County deputies handled one violent crime during the New Year’s holiday, arresting Derek Eugene Johnson, 20, on three counts of aggravated assault after he fired on three people with a .22-caliber rifle during an argument he had with a guest who was staying at the home he shared with three other people. He was released on $7,500 bond.
