Black ties, formal gowns and magnolia flowers will fill a night of dancing for a good cause in Vicksburg.

The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg is hosting its first Magnolia Charity Ball from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, Jan. 21 at Lady Luck Casino, 1380 Warrenton Road.

“We wanted something fun for the community,” said Lindsey Bradley, Magnolia Charity Ball public relations chairman. “We wanted something where the community can be more involved.”

The band Mo Money is scheduled to entertain the crowd with blues, jazz, soul, R&B, Top 40, 80s and oldies music. The casino will serve hors d’oeuvres, and there will be a cash bar.

“We want more community involvement, so we’re hoping this will draw more people out to learn what JA is about, and to learn what all we do with our service projects,” Bradley said.

Proceeds from the event will go to the children of Warren County by helping fund JA’s service projects, which are Camp Silvercloud, the Warren County Children’s Shelter, Make-A-Wish, Heart and Sole girls mentoring, Good Shepherd Community Center, Reading for Enrichment and Development, the Game of Life and career development for high school students.

“All the money goes toward those service projects,” Bradley said. “We have eight this year for 2016-2017. Every year we vote on those projects.”

In an effort to raise as much as possible for their service projects, there will be a 50/50 raffle and living ads at the ball.

“We’re having living ads. A lot of our businesses that are sponsors, they are picking out a teenager to come out and represent their business. So we’re going to have kind of like a lead-out,” Bradley said. “The teenagers that we have so far are really excited about representing those businesses.”

She said many other Junior Auxiliary organizations host black tie events the community can rally behind, and the local members thought it would be a great way to raise money and have fun.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased from JA members or at Sassafras, 1406 Washington St.
