Forfeit puts Vicksburg in soccer playoffs

Vicksburg High didn’t have to lift a finger Saturday to make the MHSAA Class 5A boys soccer playoffs.
Canton forfeited its game against the Gators to hand them the second and final playoff berth in Division 4-5A.

Canton had beaten Vicksburg earlier last week in an overtime shootout.

Vicksburg (4-9, 2-2 Division 4-5A) will go on the road to play Germantown in the first round of the playoffs on Tuesday. The game will begin at 7 p.m.

Vicksburg’s girls’ team also picked up a forfeit win over Canton, its second of the week. The Missy Gators had already clinched the Division 4-5A championship and will host Grenada in a first-round playoff game Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

St. Al soccer ties JA,
beats Lamar School

St. Aloysius’ boys’ soccer team took on a couple of MAIS Class AAAA teams and more than held its own Saturday, earning a 1-1 tie with Jackson Academy and beating Lamar School 4-2.

Connor Bottin scored St. Al’s only goal against Jackson Academy. Jorrit Willemsen had an assist against JA, and scored three goals against Lamar. It was Willemsen’s second hat trick in three games.

Gradon Bourne also had a goal against Lamar, while Justin Ehrgott had two assists and Kieran Theriot had one.

St. Al (10-3-1) will host Jackson Academy Monday at 6 p.m.
