Falling tree knocks out power to 1,000

A tree falling on an Entergy transmission line in the Basinsky Road area knocked out power to more than 1,000 customers in Vicksburg late Sunday night, Entergy customer service representative Shelia McKinnis said.

She said the outage occurred about 9:59 p.m., and also affected the utility’s Vicksburg East, Edwards, Bolton, Raymond and Utica substations, causing scattered outages.

McKinnis said at its peak, of the outage affected 1,054 customers in the city, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Engineering Research and Development Center. Most of those affected by the outage were in the Porter’s Chapel and U.S. 80 area, according to an outage map on Entergy’s website.

She said power was restored by to all but 28 customers by 4:17 a.m. Monday, and power was expected to be restored to those remaining 28 by 9 a.m. Monday.
