Ad, creative staff snag 19 awards at MPA contest

JACKSON — The Vicksburg Post’s advertising and creative service team was named among the state’s best Saturday during the annual Mississippi Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest Advertising Division Awards.

The awards were presented during a luncheon at the Hilton in Jackson.

In all, the team received 19 awards honoring advertising campaigns, graphics and special sections in which the team partnered with Vicksburg-area businesses last year.

The newspaper also received second place in the General Excellence category, placing behind The Natchez Democrat in one of the contest’s daily newspaper divisions.

“It is a honor to have the amazing work of our advertising and creative service team recognized by those who judged this contest,” Tim Reeves, publisher of The Vicksburg Post, said. “I know how hard each member of our team works to create interesting, appealing and effective advertising for our business partners, and it is an honor to work with professionals who are this talented.”

The newspaper received first place awards in: institutional advertising, retail advertising, advertising/editorial section on newsprint, theme page and circulation house advertising.

The newspaper’s magazine, Vicksburg Living, received a second place award in magazine periodical. It also received second place awards in health care, grocery and restaurant, political, financial, editorial promotion and single magazine advertising categories.

Third place awards were earned in health care, grocery and restaurant, automotive, small space, glossy editorial section for the Live Vicksburg magazine, and theme page advertising.

Every member of the team, which includes advertising manager Angela Ross, creative service manager David Girard, Sheila Mantz, Mary Manard and Michael Martin received at least one award.

“These winners represent the best in advertising service provided to customers and readers,” said MPA Executive Director Layne Bruce. “The Advertising Excellence Awards are presented for the cumulative body of work of these newspapers over a year’s time, and honors their efforts in print newspaper, magazine and digital advertisements.”
