An Edwards woman accused of taking a vehicle was held without bail Wednesday.

Alice Nicole “Nikki” Layton, 31, of Buck Reed Road in Edwards, was arrested Tuesday and charged with auto theft, Sheriff Martin Pace said.

Layton is accused of taking the 2005 Chevrolet crew cab pickup truck she was a passenger in July 25 when the owner exited the vehicle for a short amount of time on Fisher Ferry Road. The vehicle’s owner reported the crime and a warrant was placed for her arrest.

Lt. Randy Lewis continued to work on the case and found Layton Monday. She agreed to meet him at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and she was served on the warrant. Officers found out the vehicle was sold for scrap and was crushed days later in Jackson for $300.

Layton appeared in Justice Court and remained in jail on $5,000 bail Wednesday.

Pace said the incident is still under investigation and would not rule out additional arrests.

Texas man arrested for eluding Warren County Authorities

A Texas man accused of running from police in Warren County was taken into custody Tuesday.

Jonathan Sheaver of Greenville, Texas, has been charged with felony eluding and reckless driving, Vicksburg police Chief Walter Armstrong said.

About 1:45 p.m. Officer Donnie Heggins attempted to pull over the white Dodge Neon with Texas plates traveling eastbound on I-20 near the Clay Street exit.

But after initially stopping, Sheaver sped off leading a chase with the Vicksburg Police Department, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the Edwards Police Department and the Bolton Police Department.

The chase ended in Hinds County between the Bolton and Norell Road exits when a Bolton Police Officer got in front of Sheaver.

Sheaver attempted to pass the officer on the right shoulder and lost control crashing into the guard rail in the median. No one was injured.
