Warren County’s basketball teams are working for the weekend.

The times of the second-round MHSAA state tournament games for the county’s three remaining teams have been set, and will see Warren Central’s girls’ team playing Friday night and both WC and Vicksburg High’s boys in action on Saturday night. All three teams will be on the road.

The Warren Central Lady Vikes (23-9) will tip things off Friday at 7 p.m. when they head to far North Mississippi to take on Olive Branch (29-1) in one of the better second-round games of the Class 6A bracket. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals next week in Jackson.

Olive Branch has played in two of the last three Class 6A championship games. Warren Central has not been to the Jackson portion of the state tournament since the 2006-07 season.

The Warren Central-Olive Branch winner will face the winner between Jim Hill and Ocean Springs on March 4 in Jackson.

Warren Central’s boys will also travel to Olive Branch, but will play Saturday at 7 p.m.

The Vikings (12-15) beat Hernando in the first round on Tuesday for the program’s first state tournament victory in 42 years. Olive Branch (24-6) won the Division 1-6A tournament championship and has won 14 of its last 16 games since late December.

The winner will face either Jim Hill or Brandon on March 4 in Jackson.

The Vicksburg Gators (19-9) will also play Saturday at 7 p.m., at Clarksdale (9-13) in the second round of the Class 5A tournament. The winner will play either Brookhaven or Hattiesburg March 3 in Jackson.

The Gators are just 2-3 over their last five games, but routed West Point 65-47 in the first round on Tuesday and will face a Clarksdale squad that has found its footing after struggling for most of the season.

Clarksdale is riding a five-game winning streak, with all of the wins coming by double digits. It won the Division 1-5A tournament and then beat Lake Cormorant 60-47 in the first round of the state tournament.
