Warren County supervisors have completed a land swap with a local company that could help improve parking for the Warren County Health Department.

The Board of Supervisors Monday approved the exchange of two county lots on Cherry Street totaling .16 acres for an .11-acre lot owned by Springfield LLC on First East Street, across from the health department parking lot.

“We may straighten out that (health department) parking lot for employee parking and public parking,” county administrator John Smith said. “They’re (the city) not going to let us put a parking lot on Cherry Street.”

He said the property on First East is across the street from the driveway going to the health department.

Springfield LLC owner Tom Pharr said he plans to build bungalow-type garden homes on the property that will have a protected entrance. He said he is presently working with investors and the city on the project.

In another matter, the board approved repaying an $11,901 loan made in anticipation of a U.S. Justice Department Justice Assistance grant to purchase radio equipment for the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

Justice Assistance, or JAG, grants are awarded by the Justice Department to help local law enforcement agencies purchase supplies and equipment. The city of Vicksburg is the local agent for the grant in Warren County, and the police department and sheriff’s office split the grant funds evenly.

The 2016 grant was $24,803. The city has applied for a $20,111 grant for 2017.
