RAYMOND — In a possible preview of the MACJC football championship game, East Mississippi held off Hinds Community College 51-41 Saturday in Raymond.

Tyrell Price led East Mississippi (8-1) with 154 rushing yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Lindsey Scott threw for one touchdown and ran for another.

Ra’Meik Wallace scored three touchdowns for Hinds (6-2) — two receiving and one rushing — as the Eagles overcame several double-digit deficits to stay in the game. A 27-yard touchdown catch by Wallace got them within a field goal, 44-41, with 7:41 left in the fourth quarter.

East Mississippi, however, answered with a quick scoring drive to go back up by 10 points and Hinds was unable to mount one last comeback.

Tylan Morton threw two touchdown passes for Hinds, and Devante Scott had a 6-yard TD run early in the game.

Both Hinds and East Mississippi have qualified for the MACJC playoffs, but are on opposite sides of the bracket.

East Mississippi will play at Jones County next Saturday, while Hinds will travel to Senatobia to face North Division champion Northwest Mississippi. The winners of those semifinal games will play for the state championship on Nov. 11.
