Man reports being shot in drive-by case

Police are seeking information about a reported assault in which a man was shot in the leg about 7:36 p.m. Tuesday in the vicinity of Walnut and Clay streets, Vicksburg police Sgt. Johnnie Edwards said.

The man, who was not identified, said he was walking in the area when a car containing several men pulled up beside him and one of the men shot him, hitting him in the leg.

Edwards said the victim left the area and was later found by police at the intersection of Washington and Polk streets. He was taken by ambulance to Merit Health River Region, where he was treated and released, Edwards said.

In another case, police arrested a city community service worker on a charge of sale of a controlled substance after she tried to sell hydrocodone to a police officer at the police station, Edwards said.

He said police received a tip that Amy Elizabeth Perez, 35, was trying to sell the drug at the police station and set up a sting operation. She was released on $5,000 bond.

In other cases:

• Terry Lee Robinson, 52, was arrested about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office charging him with aggravated assault.

• Officials with Sheffield Rental, 1255 U.S. 61 South, reported Tuesday a customer leased a man lift machine valued at $75,000 and failed to return it.

• A counterfeit $5 bill was reported passed Monday at the River Walk Casino, 1046 Warrenton Road.

• A utility trailer parked in 1200 block of National Street was reported taken Tuesday about 12:46 p.m.

• Janice Levetta Brown, 58, was arrested Tuesday about 8:05 a.m. at the Vicksburg Police Department on a charge of contempt of court.

• Elijah Eugene Qualls, 40, was arrested Tuesday about 9 a.m. at the intersection of Military Avenue and Roosevelt Street on a charge of trespassing.

• Tavarese DeShone Ross, 20, was arrested Tuesday about 10:42 a.m. in the 100 block of Union Avenue on a charge of petit larceny.

• Christina Kay Creppeldanpolo, no age given, was arrested about 10:45 a.m.at Iowa Boulevard and Interstate 20 on a charge of three counts of contempt of court.

• Thomas Andrew Haigh, 37, was arrested about 11:41 a.m. Tuesday at the Vicksburg Police Department on a charge of contempt of court — failure to attend counseling.

• Chanyia Delaina Johnson, 23, was arrested about 1:08 p.m. Tuesday on Warrenton Road on charges of five counts of contempt of court, having an expired or no driver’s license, three child restraint violations and two seatbelt violations.

• Tess Aurua Smith-Barber-Swinford, 28, was arrested about 2:43 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Military Avenue and Cedar Street on charges of DUI, no seatbelt, careless driving and no proof of insurance.

• Keanna Monique Polk, 31, was arrested about 5:19 p.m. at the police station on two counts of harassing telephone calls.

Police responded to the following calls Tuesday:

• 8:05 a.m.: malicious mischief, 4000 block of Washington Street, tire made flat.

• 1:56 p.m.: DUI arrest and other substance, Military Avenue.

• 2:07 p.m.: mattress burned in a hotel room in the 1300 block of Walnut Street.

• 3:11 p.m.: petit larceny — laptop computer reported stolen in the 2600 block of Roosevelt.

• 4 p.m.: petit larceny — DVD player, surround sound and a printer reported stolen in the 2000 block of Baker Street.

• 4:43 p.m.: simple assault with injury in the 2500 block of Warrenton Road, neighbors assaulted one another.

• 8:18 p.m.: petit larceny — towels, DVD and cap reported taken in Hutson Street.

• 12:32 a.m.: Cherry and Grove streets, false information — person lied about identity.

•12:36 a.m.: shoplifting, 3000 block of Wisconsin Avenue, a case of beer reported taken.
