Man facing armed robbery, aggravated assault charges

A Vicksburg man was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $375,000 bond on a charge of aggravated assault and multiple counts of armed robbery.

Samuel Matthews, 27, 204 Kendra Drive, is accused of shooting a man in December, and committing two armed robberies that occurred in October.

He was arrested Wednesday after he attempted to run from police during a traffic stop of a car in which he was a passenger.

Matthews is accused with an unidentified person of robbing a man of $15 at gunpoint Oct. 25 in the area of Bowmar Avenue and Drummond Street, and in an Oct. 31 robbery in the 1500 block of Marcus Street where they took $143.00 in cash.

In another case, Brian Davis Hobson, 27, 2065 Flower Drive, Jackson, was being held in the Warren County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond charged with statutory rape.

He is accused of having sex in April 2017 with 15-year-old girl. The arrest was the result of  an investigation into a complaint filed by the girl, who told police she had consensual sex with Hobson when he came to Vicksburg to visit her.

Hopson also has a hold placed on him by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for probation violation.

In other cases:

• A purple bag, black wallet, Social Security Card and driver’s license were reported taken Thursday from a 2016 Ford Fusion parked at the Crossings apartments.

• A 2007 Dodge Charger, 60-inch flat screen TV, telephone and assorted medications were reported taken Thursday from a home in the 100 block of Greenview Drive.

Police made the following arrests Wednesday and Thursday:

• Cordero Akerian Reed, 30, 39 Gay Drive, Anguilla, was arrested about 1:54 a.m. Thursday on Iowa Boulevard on charges of first-offense DUI, expired car tag, careless driving and no proof of insurance.

• A warrant was served Thursday on Martin Antoine Jackson, 37, 601 Bowmar Ave.

• Warrants were served Thursday on Yvette Chavon Harris, 26, 1900 Baldwin Ferry Road 14A. She was also charged with contempt of court.

• Warrants were served Thursday on George Payton Price, 40, 510 Bazinsky Road.

• Salento Tremayne Weathersby, 39, 64 Alpine St., was arrested about 7:36 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of First East and Washington streets, on charges of possession of marijauana in a vehicle and careless driving.

• James Dxavier Jr., no age given, 1023 Buck St., was arrested about 8:22 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Speed and Letitia streets on charges of possession of marijuana, under age possession of alcohol and simple assault.

• A warrant was served Wednesday on Anthony Nahen Heath, 52, 1514 Baum St.

• Ransom James Warfield, 42, 1507 Marcus St., was arrested about 9:50 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. 61 North and County Line Road on two counts of contempt of court.

• Juatica Lashanti McDaniel, 25, 138 Elizabeth Circle, was arrested about 11:31 p.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of Grove Street on three counts of contempt of court.

Vicksburg Police Department responded to the following calls Wednesday and Thursday:

• 1:35 p.m. Thursday, 3600  block of Security Street tool set valued at $300 reported stolen

• 12:57 a.m. Friday, Jonathan Grantham, 27, 111 Church Hill Drive, was arrested for contempt of court.

• 3:03 a.m. Friday, Colby Williams, 30, 618 North Popular St., was arrested for three counts of Contempt of Court.

• 5:44 a.m. Friday, 1200 block of Mission 66, three vehicle batteries valued at $200 each reported stolen.

• Simple assault on Rigby Street.

• Vehicle fire in the 2600 Block of Letitia St.

• Petit larceny on Faulk Steel Road.

• Simple assault in the area of Grove Street.
