RIDGELAND — Lawrence J. Taylor Sr. passed away Monday, March 12, 2018, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Jackson.

Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and noon Thursday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Brandon with burial at Parkway Cemetery, Highland Colony Parkway in Ridgeland. Dr. Chad Hunsburger of Park Place Baptist Church will officiate.

Mr. Taylor was a member of Park Place Baptist Church and was an ordained Deacon of Trinity Baptist Church in Vicksburg.

Mr. Taylor was the son of James Wesley Taylor and Murlee Kirkley Taylor, lifelong residents of Vicksburg. Mr. Taylor worked for Gulf Chemical Company of Vicksburg and moved to Jackson in 1976 and worked as a Jobber for Gulf Oil Company until his retirement.

Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, serving overseas in the Pacific in WWII for three years. He was a member of VFW Post #5048 in Florence and before retiring, he was a member of several civic organizations in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, Zula Roland Taylor of Brandon; son, Larry Taylor (Alice) of Brandon; granddaughters, Natalie and Lana Taylor of Brandon; step-grandchildren, Martin Bragg (Tammy) of Brandon, David Bragg (Morgan) of Madison; step-great-grandchildren, Christopher and Carter Bragg of Brandon and Tate and Tyler Bragg of Madison.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his first wife, Billye Bliss Taylor; parents, James Wesley Taylor and Murlee Kirkley Taylor; his siblings, Bernice Kuhnert (Gus), Rosaleigh Taylor Murray (John), John Taylor (Melva) and Charles W. Taylor. 

Pallbearers are Alfred Kuhnert, Earl Kuhnert, Allen Armour, Ricky McMullen, Tim Frith, Paul Farror and Jonathan Huffmaster.

Honorary pallbearers are Bro. James Edwards, Paul Breazeale, Johnny Walker, Wallace Goza, Johnny Pierce and Charles Ray Thompson.    

The family would like to thank all of his friends and church family for their prayers and goodness during our time of sorrow.  We also appreciate the nurses and staff at the VA Nursing Home in Jackson.
