Terrell Smith cemented his status as one of the best college sprinters in the country with a strong performance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships last weekend in College Station, Texas.

The Kansas State sprinter and former Vicksburg High star set a school record in the 200 meters, with a personal-best time of 20.81 seconds. He finished ninth out of 16 runners in the preliminaries, which earned him second-team All-America honors.

Smith missed the cut for the final by .02 seconds. The seventh through 11th place times in the preliminaries were separated by .06 seconds.

It was the best finish at the meet by a Kansas State sprinter in school history. Smith holds both the indoor and outdoor records in the 200 meters for Kansas State. He has broken the indoor record three times this season.

“I was feeling good when I was running, it was a phenomenal run,” Smith said in a school release. “I had family come out, I had friends in the stands so there is nothing better that I can ask for.”

Among Mississippi schools, Mississippi State’s Logan Boss finished third in the men’s high jump, Rhianwedd Price-Weimer placed fourth in the men’s mile, and Dejon Devroe placed sixth in the 800 meters.

Southern Miss’ John Warren finished sixth in the men’s triple jump, with a leap of 16.31 meters.
