The Culkin Rockers did the expected Sunday afternoon, routing the Thibodeaux 12s, 11-2, to win the 12-year-olds’ Governor’s Cup championship.

Ben Koestler went 4-for-4 with a double, Chris Mixon had two hits and Eric Douglas and Josh Gordon each homered and pitched three innings to lead the Rockers to the win.

“It’s the same feeling, just rolling on a little farther,” said Culkin coach Donnie Gordon, whose players also won the state Dizzy Dean title and finished second in the Dizzy Dean World Series in July. “It’s a good way to end the summer, especially with the summer they’ve had.”

Culkin took a 4-0 lead in the third on Josh Gordon’s two-run homer, then blew it open with a four-run fourth inning. Douglas’ three-run homer keyed the rally.

“That was a big hit. That put a little more space in there, made it a little easier,” Donnie Gordon said.

Douglas continued the mastery of Thibodeaux that Gordon started, ensuring no late rallies.

Gordon faced just 10 batters over the first three innings, allowing no hits and striking out five. Douglas took over in the fourth and allowed two runs, but only one hit.

An optional game between the 11- and 12-year-olds’ champions to crown an overall bracket champion was canceled.

Chesterville 3, Dynamite 1

The Vicksburg Dynamite found hits hard to come by against Chesterville’s pitchers and fell in the 11-year-olds’ championship game.

Kevin Calvin knocked in Vicksburg’s only run with a double in the fourth, scoring Matthew Thornton, who had led off the inning with a double.

The Dynamite had just five hits and never led. Chesterville scored two runs in the first and one in the third.

Red Storm 7, 100 Black Men 7

The Vicksburg Red Storm scored five runs in the first, then held on to earn a tie against the eventual 9-10-year-olds’ runner-up.

Harry Ferguson, Rowe Rhett, Matt Cranfield and Delmon Robinson each had two hits for Vicksburg. Robinson also had an RBI triple and Andrew Brown drove in three runs with a triple.
