TALLULAH MAN HELD AFTER CAR BREAK-IN

A Tallulah man was in the Warren County jail this morning after attempting to burglarize a car in the Wal-Mart SuperCenter parking lot, police said.

Sam Austin Kennedy, 20, 110 Kirby St., was arrested Thursday afternoon by officers Glenn Roy and Mack Richards after a woman told police she found the man in her 1991 Geo Metro, officer Beverly Prentiss said.

The vehicle’s owner told police she returned to her car after shopping, found a man and confronted him before he ran, Prentiss said.

FOUR AUTO BURGLARIES REPORTED IN CITY

Four auto burglaries were reported in the city Thursday to Vicksburg.

A 2000 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1998 GMC were broken into on the 300 block of Marian Lane Thursday afternoon, Prentiss said. Among the missing items were binoculars that cost about $150 and CDs, flashlight and about $15 in cash, Officer Beverly Prentiss said.

Also Thursday morning, a hunting knife, flashlight and ashtray were taken from a 1999 Ford on McAuley Drive, Prentiss said. The cost of the items was about $95, she said.

A fourth vehicle was reported broken into Thursday afternoon in the 1100 block of Grove Street, Prentiss said. A $100 cellular phone was reported missing from a 1993 Plymouth, she said.

ARSON CITED IN FIRE THAT DESTROYED CARS

Vicksburg Police are saying arson is to blame in a fire Wednesday morning that destroyed two cars at a local motel.

Officer Beverly Prentiss said a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina was destroyed and a rag was found in the gas tank of a partially burned white Oldsmobile. Both cars were in the parking lot of Scottish Inn, 3955 E. Clay St., Prentiss said.

GUN FIRED INTO HOME AT CIRCLE LAKE

No injuries were reported in a shooting Thursday morning at a Vicksburg apartment complex, said officer Beverly Prentiss.

Police responded to the shooting at 1950 Hope St. around 8:40 a.m. and were told by residents that a man fired a gun into the apartments after arguing with one of the residents, Prentiss said.

The shot broke a window and damaged a wall in the apartment, Prentiss said. No arrest had been made, she said.
