CITY MAN CHARGED WITH STATUTORY RAPE

A Vicksburg man was arrested Sunday night on charges of statutory rape, Capt. Robert Dowe of the Vicksburg Police Department said.

James Thomas, 22, 35 Smith Road, was arrested after a 12-year-old girl and her parents told police she had been assaulted, Dowe said.

Thomas was in the Warren County Jail this morning.

Separately, another city man was in jail this morning on charges of domestic violence and sexual battery, Dowe said.

Henry Banks, 44, 2501A Franklin St., was arrested Saturday after a woman told police she was the victim of domestic violence and had been sexually assaulted, Dowe said.

TWO CITY WOMEN FACE DRUG CHARGES

Two Vicksburg women were arrested on drug charges over the weekend, Capt. Robert Dowe said.

Sally Collins, 35, 1690 Standard Hill Road, was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine after a routine traffic stop Friday, Dowe said.

Also on Friday, Lizzie Green, 37, 913 China St. No. 9, was arrested on charges of sale of marijuana after a search warrant was conducted at her home, Dowe said.

THREE BURGLARIES REPORTED IN CITY

Two house burglaries and an auto burglary were reported to Vicksburg Police over the weekend, Capt. Robert Dowe said.

On Saturday, a resident in the 1400 block of First North Street reported that his front door was kicked in and shoes and clothes, all valued at $500, were missing, Dowe said.

Also on Saturday, a VCR and a diamond ring, both valued at $450, were reported missing from a residence in the 1900 block of Baldwin Ferry Road, Dowe said.

Sunday, a CD player valued at $190 was reported missing from a Nissan Stanza parked at Pemberton Square mall, Dowe said.

SHOPPER JAILED AFTER DOWNING BEER

An apparently thirsty shopper was arrested Saturday after employees of a grocery store said he gulped down two cans of beer and attempted to leave without paying for them.

Capt. Robert Dowe of the Vicksburg Police Department said Louis Adams, 38, 2805 Lake St., was arrested at Kroger on Pemberton Boulevard and charged with felony shoplifting, which is the charge after a minimum of two misdemeanor shoplifting charges have been filed.

Adams was in the Warren County Jail awaiting arraignment this morning.
