HORATIO ERWIN JONES SR.

Horatio Erwin Jones Sr. died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Veterans Administration Hospital.

He was 74.

Mr. Jones was a veteran of World War II. He retired from MP&L. He was a member of paragon Lodge No. 7 F&AM and Wesley United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie R. Crump Jones; two sons, Stanley Jones and Charles Jones; his parents, John R. and Helen J. Wesley Jones; three brothers, John Jones, Peter Jones and Warren Jones.

Survivors include a son, Horatio E. Jones Jr. of Vicksburg; three daughters, Helen M. Jones of New York, N.Y., Bernelle J. Wells of Jackson and Angela Jones of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Charles B. Jones of San Francisco; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

ALBERT SHORT

Albert Short died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at his home.

He was 83.

Mr. Short was a retired railroad worker. He was a member of King David M.B. Church No. 1.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Erma Baines Short; his parents, Douglas and Minnie B. Givens Short; and one brother, Douglas Short.

Survivors include a son, Robert C. Short of Vicksburg; two daughters, Lelia M. Short of Vicksburg and Carol A. Smith of Chicago; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and other relatives including Willie Frank Shorter.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.

TOM TEMPLETON

UTICA Tom Templeton died Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, at his home in Utica.

He was 69.

Born in Hazlehurst, Mr. Templeton had lived in Utica since 1945. He retired from Waterways Experiment Station printing department. He was a former member of the U.S. Army 31st Dixie Division. He was a member of the Utica Christian Church.

Survivors include his mother, Lucille Templeton of Jackson; three daughters, Tamie McCaffrey of Denham Springs, La., Tena Matthews of Tallulah and Taye Taylor of Baton Rouge; one brother, Billy Templeton of Jackson; two sisters, Marjorie Keyes of Jackson and Barbara McGuffee of Utica; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Utica Christian Church with the Rev. Johnny Welborn officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.

Pallbearers will be Chubby Smith, Albert McGuffee, Don Price, Billy Beasley, Herbert Smith and Buddy Scott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Jones, Dan Mathews, William Davis and Buddy Davis.

JAMARS QUISSIAN WALKER

LORMAN Jamars Quissian Walker died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was 17.

Mr. Walker was a senior at Jefferson County High School. He was a member of East Mount Olive Baptist Church, where he was on the usher board.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather Henry Bell and an uncle, Wood C. Bell.

Survivors include his parents, Sheriff Peter E. and Annie Bell Walker, both of Lorman; maternal grandmother, Anna Bell of Red Lick; paternal grandparents, Dan and Alice Walker of Fayette; a sister, Almanee Shelvy of Lorman; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives including the Rev. Leonard Walker of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at East Mount Olive Baptist Church in Red Lick with the Rev. Isaac Henderson officiating. Burial will follow at East Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 8 tonight at Rollins Funeral Home in Fayette.

Pallbearers will be various law enforcement officers and the Jefferson County High School class of 2000.

Honorary pallbearers will be his cousins.
