Lady Vikes break jinx at Greenville

Warren Central broke its bad spell at Greenville and took an early lead in the division race.

The Lady Vikes (7-0, 1-0 Division 3-5A) finally beat Greenville on the road their first victory at Greenville in at least three years 16-11 on Thursday.

“It felt good,” WC coach Lucy Young said.

Anna Mitchell had a pair of hits. Ednita Prentiss had a two RBIs.

Trailing 6-1 heading into the third inning, the Lady Vikes scored five in the third and six in the fourth for a 12-6 lead. WC led 16-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

VHS 6, McComb 3

Vicksburg High coach Josh Harper said he expected a tougher game from McComb than Tuesday’s, when the Missy Gators won, 23-0. He was right, but VHS (5-1) won.

Krystal Lofton went 3-for-3 with and RBI and Dana Daigre was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Viola Howard ahad a key RBI single in the Missy Gators’ three-run fourth, which gave VHS a 6-1 advantage.

Amber Landers got the win.

VHS had 19 hits but stranded 15.

“We’d get to second or third, but then they just didn’t fall our way,” Harper said.

VHS travels to Madison Central for a doubleheader Tuesday.

Puckett 17, St. Aloysius 3

Kelly Haden had a single, double and an RBI and Lia Evans had a two-RBI single in the Lady Flashes’ division loss. Stephanie Evans took the loss for St. Al (2-2, 0-1 Division 8-1A).
