GLADYS GROSS BRISTER

Gladys Gross Brister died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, at Heritage Nursing Home.

She was 87.

A native of Leake County, Mrs. Brister attended East Central Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. For a number of years she lived in Forest, La., where she taught home economics. She was a member of Forest Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brister was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick D. Brister.

Survivors include three sisters, Effie Beasley of Vicksburg, Walterine Bowen of Memphis and Marguerite Flowers of Lake Charles, La.; four brothers, Elmer Gross of Gatlinburg, Tenn., and Herman Gross, Sam William Gross and Herbert Gross, all of Carthage; nieces and nephews.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday at Wilcox Funeral Home in Carthage. Burial followed at New Providence Cemetery.

GLADYS M. GREEN

Gladys M. Green died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center.

She was 71.

Mrs. Green was a member of Morning Star M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hayes and Estelle Carter Dotson.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall Green; three sons, Dewayne Green and Maurice Harris, both of Vicksburg, and Reginald Smith of Jackson; two daughters, Shirley Chase and Monique Harris, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Leland Dotson and James Dotson, both of Lorman, and Willie Short of Port Gibson; three sisters, Ollie Adams of Crosby, Bertha Dotson of Port Gibson and Irene Brown of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

JIMMY OWENS

PATTISON Jimmy Owens died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson.

He was 53.

Mr. Owens was born in Vicksburg and reared in Pattison. He graduated from Port Gibson High School and worked as a construction coordinator at Bechtel Corp. for 25 years.

He was a member of Pattison Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Fay E. Owens of Yantis, Texas; a son, Mark Owens of Marietta, Ohio; one brother, David Owens of Pattison; and one grandchild, Evan Owens of Marietta.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Vicksburg with the Rev. John Slade officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be Friday in Wills Point, Texas.

ISAAC MONROE PARSON

Isaac Monroe Parson died today, Aug. 22, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center.

He was 91.

Mr. Parson was a member and deacon at Cedar Grove M.B. Church. He was self-employed in the logging business and had worked for a number of years at Waterways Experiment Station.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doretha Smith Parson; his parents, the Rev. John T. Parson and Carrie Franklin Parson; three sisters, Lubertha Parson Harris, Estella Parson Burns and Sarah Parson Moore; two brothers, Willie Henry Parson and Elza Parson; and a grandson, Dwight Parson.

He is survived by eight sons, Robert Parson of Baldwin, Mo., Johnnie Parson of Goshen, Ore., and Monroe Parson, Theodore Parson, George Parson, Raymond Parson, Isaac Parson Jr. and Fred Parson, all of Vicksburg; three daughters, Jerlean Parson McGee, Ernestine Parson and Josephine Parson Parker, all of Vicksburg; 39 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives including Aurella Smith and members of the Burns, Harris, Smith and Bell families, all of Vicksburg.

Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

GERTRUDE LEWIS WALTON

Gertrude Lewis “Mama Gert” Walton died today, Aug. 22, 2000, at her home.

She was 74.

Mrs. Walton was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of Christian Home M.B. Church No. 1, where she was on the Mother Board.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Cliff Lewis Sr. and Mary Jane Kelly Lewis; her husband, Charles Walton; two brothers, Thomas Lewis and Sammie Lewis; and two sisters, Virginia Havard and Catherine Nickson.

Survivors include two brothers, the Rev. Hardie Lewis Sr. of Vicksburg and Eddie Lewis Jr. of Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Blanche Johnson of Kansas City; nieces, including her caregiver, Sarah Mace of Vicksburg; nephews; cousins; and other relatives.
