A charge of aggravated assault filed against a man Saturday was upgraded to murder Sunday after the victim died in a Jackson hospital Sunday.

Police were notified by officials at University Medical Center after Bobby Pinkney, 37, no address available, died Sunday morning, said Beverly Prentiss, community relations officer for the Vicksburg Police Department.

Officers then upgraded the charges against Dock Davis Jr., 19, no address available, to murder. He was being held at the Vicksburg Police Department without bond this morning and expected to be transferred to the Warren County Jail.

Prentiss said Davis was arrested about two hours after a fight was reported in the 1200 block of Cherry Street just before midnight Friday. Investigators said it appeared Pinkney died of a head injury caused by a blunt object.

Detective Randy Naylor is heading the investigation with the aid of Capt. Mark Culbertson. Arresting officers were Darlene Jones and Gregory Ransom.
