ISAAC BASS

ST. LOUIS Isaac “Boy Blue” Bass died Friday, Aug. 25, 2000, in St. Louis.

He was 79.

Mr. Bass formerly lived in Vicksburg. He was a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou; his parents, Sylvester Bass Sr. and Jeanette Sims Bass; two brothers, Sylvester Bass Jr. and Allen Bass; and a sister, Elizabeth Palmer.

Survivors include two brothers, Willie Bass of St. Louis and the Rev. Joseph Bass of Bordentown, N.J.; two sisters, Rosie Lee Harris of Buffalo, N.Y., and Ruth McFarland of Vicksburg; nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Ruby Lee Bass and Annie Mae Hall, both of Vicksburg, and the Bass, Hall, Sims, Hebron and Nailor families, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Randle Funeral Home in St. Louis. Burial will follow at National Cemetery in St. Louis.

Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BERRY BROWN

Berry Brown died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center.

He was 95.

Mr. Brown was a retired barber and a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Brown and Carrie Brown, and two sisters, Geneva Brown and Arnetta M. Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Ada Jones Brown of Vicksburg; four sons, Eddie Mason, Elvis D. Warner, Eugene Warner and James Brown, all of Vicksburg; six daughters, Margaret Mason of Los Angeles, Ella M. Tucker and Floretha West, both of Gardena, Calif., and Ora Bennett, Shirley Warner Preacely and Carrie M. Hagan, all of Vicksburg; one brother, William Brown Jr. of Vicksburg; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

THOMAS L. LEE SR.

Services for Thomas L. Lee Sr. were at 10 a.m. today at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Stringer, pastor of Westview Baptist Church, officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Lee died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at his home in Bovina.

He was 84.

A native of Eupora, Mr. Lee had lived in Vicksburg for the past 60 years. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He worked as a route man for the Vicksburg Laundry for more than 40 years and was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annetta Allen Lee; his parents, Charles G. and Martha Lindsey Lee; two sisters, Martha Lee and Charlene Lee Wright; and a brother, George S. Lee Sr.

Survivors include a son, Thomas L. Lee Jr. of Redwood; a daughter, Lynda A. Lee of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mary L. Nelson of Vicksburg and Clara L. Bingham of Johnson City, Tenn.; two grandsons, Tom H. Lee of Redwood and D. Shane Martin of Jackson; three granddaughters, Lurlinda L. Soignier of Inverness and Lurline M. Lawrence and Alisha E. Lawrence, both of Redwood; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Nelson, John Ryan Lee, George Lee Jr., Larry Dickson, Billy Wright and Robert Pridgen.

Honorary pallbearers were Irma Howard Hintson, Alice Pronger, Luther Barber, Warren Guider, Allen Kitchens, Eddie Bingham, Chris Nelson and former employees of Vicksburg Laundry.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

HELEN BARRANCO SMITH

SHREVEPORT Helen Barranco Smith died Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Willis Knighton Medical Center in Shreveport.

She was 77.

A native of McComb, Mrs. Smith was a longtime resident of Jackson and Shreveport. She was a real estate agent and a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church in Shreveport.

Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Sheryl Smith-Kappus of Plano, Texas; a son, Edgar James Smith Jr. of Houston, Texas; a sister, Dorothy Barranco Bridgers of Vicksburg; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight and 11 a.m. until the service Thursday at the funeral home.
