Services for Elana “Dar” Slaughter will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Willis Cemetery in the Eagle Lake community under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Slaughter died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center.

She was 95.

She was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church in Eagle Lake

She was preceded in death by her husband, Abraham Slaughter Sr.; her parents, Jerry and Rachel Brooks; one son, Eligah Slaughter; one daughter, Rubena Grey; five sisters; four brothers; and members of the Haywood Terrell family.

Survivors include two sons, Abraham Slaughter Jr. of Memphis and J.D. Slaughter of Eagle Lake; two daughters, Katie S. Ervin of Jolliet, Ill., and Iola S. Epps of Vicksburg; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; and other relatives, including the Terry Slaughter family, Patricia A. Segrest, Zelmarine Murphy, Levi Williams and Dave Grey, all of Vicksburg.

SUSIE MAE ROSS

JACKSON Susie Mae Ross died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, at Central Methodist Medical Center in Jackson.

She was 80.

Mrs. Ross was a teacher for six years in the Hinds County Public Schools. She was a graduate of Southern Christian Institute in Edwards and Jackson College. She spent 38 years of service in the Christian ministry. She was a member of Parkway Garden (Disciples of Christ) Christian Church in Chicago where she served as a church school teacher and chairman of the church worship department. She was a member of Leadership of the Christian Women Fellowship auxiliary. She was a member of Park Hill (Disciples of Christ) Christian Church in Denver where she was a teacher in the youth department and was ordained as deaconess in service for 14 years. She was a member of Park Hill’s Christian Women’s Fellowship. She served as vice president of the district CWF in Colorado and was the first woman president of the Denver area association. She was nominated and served as program chairman for the CWF in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Willie Sr. and Mary Clay Hill.

She is survived by a niece, Ollie Knight of Chicago, and a goddaughter, Brenda Richardson of Vicksburg.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Kingsley Chapel United Methodist Church in Edwards. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Edwards.

Visitation will be from 1 until 8 p.m. today at Lakeover Funeral Home in Jackson and from 11 a.m. until the service Thursday at the church.
