SHARON LYNN DERRISO

BOLTON Sharon Lynn “Sherrie” Derriso died Thursday, Sept., 21, 2000, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. She was 44.

A native of San Angelo, Texas, Mrs. Derriso had lived in Vicksburg for about three years. She graduated from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga., with a degree in nursing. She was a member of the Omicron and Xi chapters of the beta Sigma Phi sorority, a member of the Raymond and Bolton garden clubs, the Mississippi Old Garden Rose Society and the Delta Chapter of Pi Alpha Kappa. She taught gardening at Central Hinds Academy. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Clinton where she was the director of the Children’s Sunday School and the Vacation Bible school.

Survivors include her husband, Claude Derriso of Bolton; a daughter, Brandy Goodson of Bolton; a son, Joseph Tyler Derriso of Bolton; her parents, Doris and J.W. Watford of Valdosta, Ga.; two sisters, Julie Ennis of Satellite Beach, Fla., and Connie Vonier of Valdosta; a brother, Hank Watford of Valdosta; and her grandmother, Eunice Peterson of Mulberry, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton and at 11 a.m. Monday at Carson-McLane Funeral Home in Valdosta. Burial will be at Swilley Cemetery in Valdosta.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service today at the funeral home in Clinton and Sunday afternoon in Georgia.

Carolyn Hirsch Leyens

Carolyn Hirsch Leyens died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in New Orleans. She was 91.

Mrs. Leyens was preceded in death by her husband, Francis H. Leyens, and her parents, Renna Falk and J.K. Hirsh.

She is survived by a daughter, Renna Godchaux; her mother-in-law, Ann Leyens; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Anshe Chesed Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the N.O.C.C. or Willow Wood at Woldenbery Village, 3701 Behrmand Place, New Orleans.

MAE CLARK MAHAFFEY

Mae Clark Mahaffey died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. She was 91.

A homemaker, Mrs. Mahaffey was a native of Simpson County and had been a resident of Vicksburg for the past 10 years. She was a former resident of Port Gibson. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson.

Survivors include her son, Donald K. Mahaffey of Brandon; three daughters, Dorothy H. Harrison of Vicksburg, Fay Power Lee of Morton, and Ann M. Oakley of Matthews, N.C.; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today at Eastern Cemetery in Forest.

Eddie B. Thomas

Eddie B. Thomas died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at his residence. He was 80.

Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie Cole; and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Brown Thomas of Vicksburg; two sons, Alfred Brown of Vicksburg and Eddie Thomas Jr. of Lincoln, Neb.; four daughters, Maggie Burton and Janice Thomas, both of Vicksburg, and Glodean Jackson and Catherine Craven, both of Lincoln, Neb.; his father, Brooks Hamilton of St. Louis, Mo.; nine brothers; three sisters; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
