HERBERT CAVINESS

Services for Herbert Caviness will be at 1 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Caviness died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Vicksburg Medical Center. He was 84.

Born in Warden, La., Mr. Caviness had lived in Vicksburg since 1946. He owned and operated Herbert’s Appliance store in Vicksburg for many years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the 31st Dixie Division. He was a former member of the VFW and Masons. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Caviness.

Survivors include a son, Larry Caviness of Vicksburg; and three grandchildren, Brent Stokes of Naples, Italy, and Brandon Stokes and Amanda Stokes, both of Vicksburg.

Pallbearers will be Steven Hillman, Walter Hillman, Bruce Copes, Jimmy Lewis, Brandon Stokes, Brent Stokes, Devon Lewis and Howard Gene Caviness.

THOMAS WINTHORP DRAPER SR.

Thomas Winthorp “T.W.” Draper Sr. died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. He was 72.

Mr. Draper was a retired truck driver for Sears. He was a member of Belmont M.B. Church in Utica.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Draper Sr. and Alberta Williams Draper, and two brothers, Willie Draper Jr. and Jessie Draper.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Middleton Draper of Vicksburg; two daughters, Gwendolyn D. Yates of Vicksburg and Nila D. Granberry of El Paso, Texas; three sons, Thomas W. Draper Jr. of Vicksburg, Christopher Draper of Utica and Cornell Ellis of Compton, Calif.; three stepsons, Eddie C. Hunt, James Hunt and Roosevelt Hunt, all of Utica; one brother, Sidney Draper of Chicago; four sisters, Minnie Lindsey, Mary Bell Ester, Betty Jackson and Lillie Holmes, all of Vicksburg; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives including Elizabeth Middleton of Utica.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

PATRICIA KATHLEEN HARRISON

Patricia Kathleen “Kathy” Harrison died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at ParkView Regional Medical Center. She was 39.

Mrs. Harrison was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. She graduated from Vicksburg High School and was a member of the New Christian Fellowship Family Life Center in Port Gibson.

She is survived by her husband, Samuel Leroy Harrison Sr. of Vicksburg; two sons, Samuel Leroy Harrison and Joshua Cody Harrison, both of Vicksburg; a daughter, Miranda Lynn Gentry of Vicksburg; her mother, Bobbie Ryals Brewer Morgan; a brother, John Eric Morgan of Vicksburg; two sisters, Gloria Faye Mullins and Jennifer Ilene Shirey, both of Vicksburg; and other relatives including Lillian Harrison of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at New Vision Family Worship Center in Vicksburg with the Revs. Randal Burge and Rick McAllister officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the church.

CECIL PARKER

Cecil Parker died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, at Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville. He was 80.

A native of Phoenix, Miss., Mr. Parker was a retired towboat worker. He lived most of his life in Vicksburg and had lived in Greenville for the past year. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include five sons, Bobby Parker, Floyd Parker and Leon Parker, all of Vicksburg, Jerry Parker of Greenville and Sidney Parker of Delta, Miss.; two daughters, Barbara Martin and Alice Faye Ross, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Ruby Redditt and Lillian Hugh, both of Vicksburg; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Cresswell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Parker Jr., Kenneth Parker, Matt Parker, Dean Parker, Johnny Ross, Robert Redditt and James Keen.

Honorary pallbearers will be Morrel Redditt, Scott Kelly and James H. Lee.

EDDIE B. THOMAS

Services for Eddie B. Thomas will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olive M.B. church on Baldwin Ferry Road. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home and from noon until the service Thursday at the church.

Mr. Thomas died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at his home. He was 80.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Maggie Cole; a sister; and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Fannie Brown Thomas of Vicksburg; two sons, Alfred Brown of Vicksburg and Eddie Thomas Jr. of Lincoln, Neb.; four daughters, Maggie Burton and Janice Thomas, both of Vicksburg, and Glodean Jackson and Catherine Craven, both of Lincoln, Neb.; his father, Brooks Hamilton of St. Louis, Mo.; nine brothers; three sisters; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
