Road hazard causes blowouts

A dozen east-bound motorists on Interstate 20 were delayed Monday afternoon with flat tires caused by a hazard on the Clay Street overpass. The blowouts were caused when a metal strip that separates the concrete sections of the bridge came loose, said Sgt. Robert Jackson of the Vicksburg Police Department. Mississippi Department of Transportation employees took about 15 minutes to make repairs, he said. No injuries were reported. Most drivers changed the tires and left before Vicksburg police were called around 2:18 p.m. Above, a car that had two flat tires sits along the east-bound lane. (The Vicksburg Post/PAT SHANNAHAN)
