ROSALIE ELLIS ABRAHAM

PORT GIBSON Rosalie Ellis Abraham died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at her home in Port Gibson. She was 86.

Mrs. Abraham was a lifelong resident of Port Gibson. With her husband, she owned and operated Jitney Jungle Grocery for more than 50 years.

She was a charter member of Port Gibson Eastern Star Chapter No. 337 Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of King’s Daughters and a former member of Port Gibson Garden Club. She attended First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson and was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church in Vicksburg.

Mrs. Abraham was a master of duplicate bridge and worked for the Port Gibson-Claiborne County Chamber of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Waddy Abraham, and a son, James E. “Jimmie” Abraham.

Survivors include a son, William S. Abraham of Bastrop, Texas; a daughter, Patricia S. Cooke of Plain City, Ohio; one brother, Wilson Ellis of Gulfport; one sister, Mildred Ellis Nasif of Port Gibson; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 Thursday night at Glenwood Funeral Home of Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be Dr. George Abraham II, Dr. Robert Abraham, Kenny Joe Thomas, David Thomas, Robert Thomas, Jimmy Thomas, Doug Nasif and Ellis Nasif.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Hudson Jr., Norman James Ellis, Shawn Abraham, Jea Abraham and members of the Port Gibson chapter of Order of Eastern Star.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to First Presbyterian Church of Port Gibson.

PINK EARL TOWNSEND SR.

A memorial service for Pink Earl Townsend Sr. will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Paul’s M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating with Robbins Funeral Home in charge.

Mr. Townsend died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at his home. He was 65.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the aftermath of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Masonic Order and was retired from Vicksburg Concrete.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Carr of Charlotte, N.C., and Pink Earl Townsend Jr. of Baytown, Texas; four daughters, Sonya Carr and Dana Northern, both of Crosby, Texas, Jamita Harper of Vicksburg, and Richelle Townsend of Los Angeles; two sisters, Shirley Sanders of Winona and Earline Lee of Chicago; his former wife, Brenda Townsend; and 10 grandchildren.
